I have always been fascinated by art and fashion history. The way art constantly evolves and changes but stays the same is fascinating. I aim to make designs inspired by the past for the future with a sense of playfulness and expansive use of color and shimmer. I want to take elements of the past, present, and future and put them into my designs. Whether through fashion, costumes, or illustration, I want to delve into time and space and make art inspired by it but uniquely its own. As a fashion and costume designer, I have a distinct perspective on art history and have a fun and unique medium to work with when exploring this complex topic. My goal isn’t to make the viewer of my work dwell on art history but to see it from a new, playful perspective. I want to take the minor details of my pieces and scale them up to a new height. I love to go to thrift stores to find materials for my work. Many of my recent pieces are made of entirely thrifted clothing. I am very interested in sustainability in my work and making the most of what I can find. What I find at the thrift stores is often better than what I could have found otherwise because it forces me to be creative and use patterns or fabrics I never thought of. Being able to thrift for my materials allows me to be sustainable. When working on shows, I love to work with the actors. Having a background in acting myself, I can easily connect and work with them, and I know what would be comfortable to move in on stage, so I know what types of fabrics would be best to use and not use. Actor comfort is of significant importance to me, and I strive to get this comfort without sacrificing the look of the costume. I aim to make clothing that pays homage to art history sustainably, is comfortable, and, most importantly, fun.
